Filed under: Plants and WildlifeThe smell of garlic bread is alluring, but authorities say that it was probably the bright lights of a beachside restaurant, not the food, that attracted 60 newly hatched baby turtles. The sea turtles usually head straight for the sea as soon as they hatch. This group, hatched on a beach in Calabria, southern Italy, got confused and headed away from the shore. The baby turtles surprised diners, who were enjoying the summer evening with a little vino and pasta. It must have been quite a scene with all of those tiny shells congregating under tables!Someone knew what to do and called the World Wide Fund for Nature, who swooped in and got the little guys back on their way to ocean. Everything is back to normal, and they don't even add mock turtle soup on the menu. This has been the week for confused baby animals! Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
